Can you check in online?
The easiest way of minimising the amount of time you’ll have to spend at an airport is to check in before you even arrive. This lets you evade those long lines at the check in desk. It should also allow you to use the bag drop which is normally reserved for business and first passengers. Check before you fly - if you’re using one of the major airlines you’ll probably be able to check in online.
Pack light
Taking fewer bags means you’ll be far less stressed. For starters, making the trip to the airport with a lot of baggage can be stressful. You’ll likely have to walk some distance to get to your train/taxi/bus, so remember that when you pack. It’ll be much easier to move around if you have fewer bags.
Fly with hand baggage
If you don’t mind taking fewer bags, then the hand luggage only route will also save you a lot of time. Combine this with an online check in, and you’ll whizz through the airport. Instead of spending three hours at the airport, you can usually cut the time down to 1 1/2h if you check in online and just take hand luggage.
Pay for lounge access
If you thought business lounges were only for first class passengers, you’d be wrong.Just do a Google search for the airport you’re going to and ‘lounge’.You can usually buy a 2 hour ticket to one of these for around $20.
Not only will the lounge give you free coffee and tea, but more importantly give you a bit of peace and quiet before you set off. The great thing is that you’ll be away from the stress of the airport.
